
Historcial Sites
- Goudkoppie – view the old mining shaft that date back to
the 18th century.
- Jack Scott House – this tin house was imported from
Britain and was the home of Jack Scott, the father of
modern-day mining in the area.
- Klerksdorp Mines – interesting tours can be arranged on
request to view the operation of this buzzing industry.
Travellers can visit mining shafts excavated in the 1880’s.
- Ou Dorp Hiking Trail – this meanders through the old
part of town. Remains of prehistoric kraals can also be seen.
- The Railway Station & Old Flag Room – this
was opened by President Paul Kruger when the line from
Krugersdorp reached the town in 1897 – Klerksdorp
first national monument.
- The Klerksdorp Museum – this museum, a former prison, is a beautiful sandstone building that exhibits early
town life, archaeology, social history and local geological
history. It also offers Peach Mampoer and Soet Blits liqueurs.
- Faan Meintjies Nature Reserve – this reserve is 15km
from town and has 30 species of game and 150 species of
birds.
